Maxwell D was born in Dulwich, South London and grew to love music through his father who was a well-known DJ, Natty B on Choice FM (now known as Capital Extra). Growing up, music was a big part of Maxwell’s life, as a teenager he had a passion for Reggae, Dancehall and Hip Hop. At the age of 17 Maxwell entered a MC competition through a well-known radio station Kool FM. Maxwell went on to win the MC competition and as a result was then offered a spot on the number one leading underground jungle drum and bass stations, Kool FM.

 

Maxwell D first entered the UK Garage scene, featuring on Ramsey and Fens song titled “Favourite Part of Me” which was released by Sony BMG in 2000.  

In 2001 Maxwell D continued to rise to fame on the UK Garage scene when he released his debut single “Serious” entering the UK national charts at number 38 and hit garage dance floors across the UK. 

 

Later that year, he would then join Wiley, Target, Ace, Slimzee, Plague, Genius and God’s Gift, from Rinse FM to form the group “Pay As You Go Cartel” gaining a huge underground following and resulting in their debut single “Champagne Dance” which was signed to Sony Music and reached number 13 in the UK national charts!


Maxwell D has collaborated with UK star Ms Dynamite as well as top selling international rapper Ludacris on his number one smash hit “Southern Hospitality” which was released in the UK edition of Ludacris’ “Chicken and Beer” album. Following his collaboration with Ludacris, Maxwell D was signed to EMI publishing.

 

Maxwell continued to collaborate with various UK and international Artists such as likes of Dizzee Rascal, More Fire Crew, Adam F, Little Moe, Asher D, Charlie Sloth, Gemma Fox, Rudimental, Tinchy Strider etc. 


In July 2007, Maxwell D hooked up with LA producer Ruwanga Samath to record an R&B track entitled “With You” which was subsequently released on Channel U’s compilation album across the UK. This also led to his appearance in Kelly Rowland’s “Work It” remix (produced by Ruwanga Samath, Birdcall productions).

 

2008 saw Maxwell D featured on one of the biggest political campaign songs for former US President Barack Obama titled “On the Rise” produced by Ruwanga Samath (referenced in Barack Obamas Wikipedia).

Maxwell D appeared on Chanel 4 Friday Night live, with global rapper Kanye West and had the opportunity to perform with the musical legend himself. 

 

Not only is Maxwell D a talented musician/performer and songwriter, he is also involved in a variety of charity organisations that are close to his heart. He was a spokesman for “Kids Count” a charity bringing public awareness to gun and knife culture surrounding the youth in Britain and also a key member of “Foundation for Life” working as a Behaviour Consultant. As a passionate proponent for social issues, Maxwell D spoke at a seminar with Prime Minister David Cameron concerning strengthening families. He also regularly visited schools and YOT (youth offending teams) to give children advice on how to follow their dreams and improve their own lives. 


In 2009, Maxwell D established his presence in the UK Funky House underground scene with the club smasher “Blackberry Hype” (distributed by EMI records). As a result, this launched a trend of young people buying blackberry phones.


Maxwell D’s musical talent sparked interest in Hollywood as he become recognised from his single “Solider” which featured in the number 1 box office comedy smash “Ted” staring Mark Walberg and Mila Kunis which went on to generate millions of dollars in the first week. “Soldier” received great reviews from both industry professionals and fans. 

 

2010 Maxwell attended the Hollywood movie premier for the film “Armoured” with actors Laurence Fishburne & Columbus Short. Here Maxwell gave an interview on the red carpet for Jo Holly Wood TV.

 

It was a great year for Maxwell D as in September that year he featured on LA’s top producer RuwangaSamaths debut mixtape “Backin20”. This was released online by hip-hop legend Jay Z’s label Roc Nation, gaining over 250,000 plays on Sound cloud. The mixtape was shared on Jay Z’s Facebook and was dubbed as one the ‘best mixtapes of the year’.

In 2012 Maxwell D attended “The Red Tails” premier featuring the award winning Terrance Howard & Cuban Gooden Junior. 

 

April 2013 Maxwell D joined Orange Hill (a UK based sound system and production company) as the head MIC man alongside ex Radio 1 / Capital FM’s radio presenter Ras Kwame and producer Jnr tubby. During this time, he also went on a sold out UK club tour with US superstar Fat Man Scoop. Maxwell D generated a buzz around the underground club scene through his awesome freestyle on Julio Bashmore’s house track “Au Seve”. 


October 2014 Maxwell D performed at the Visa Music and Screen Awards at the ICC Centre in Birmingham alongside some of the UKs number one Musicians such as Aswad as well as various Actors and Actresses from TV series such as Coronation Street, Eastenders, Hollyoaks and many more. Soon after, Maxwell D revisited his Grime roots releasing a UK Grime mixtape “Unfinished Business Vol1 steps 1-20” which would showcase his enviable grit and raw talent.


As a supporter of charity work involving changing young minds, in November 2014 Maxwell D attended the Hearts and Minds charity ball in Manchester to help raise money for Autism. In attendance were celebrities such as Mc Romeo from So Solid Crew, as well as Georgina Redhead and Stephanie Davis from the Channel 4’s Hollyoaks.


In 2015 Maxwell D reunited with his old crew Pay as U Go Cartel, also joining So Solid and Heartless Crew to perform on BBC 1xtra with Mista Jam’s 60 minute live alongside Sweetie Irie and General Levy. This obtained over 1.1 million views, as a result the industry giants William Morris and S and J Promoters organized a major concert reuniting the three crews. The gig was held in the London Indigo O2 in May 2015.

Following huge success, in February Maxwell D launched his “BBhype Show” via his own online radio station “iminradio”. The show saw Maxwell joining forces with Mutya (former Suga babes member), TwistaDJ and Vita where he then went on to interview top UK artists and industry moguls.


In 2016 drawing from the success of his 2009 hit “Blackberry Hype”, Maxwell had launched his own energy drink ‘Taboo Blackberry Hype’ which was sold across many stores in the UK. Despite creatively collaborating in other markets, Maxwell has always remained focused on his music career. He has workedwith the extremely talented Rachel Crowe (American 2011 X Factor Finalist and the new voice of the Disney programme “Home”). The track “Shut it Down” which appeared on her album released by S curve.

Maxwell’s most recent projects have included tracks with alliance Ruwanga Samath as they present their new track “Crack the Ground”. The song was featured in the new movie “Sundown” soundtrack and released by ultra-music on iTunes worldwide. 

 

Maxwell D currently has 4 songs in the new Netflix movie soundtrack Reality High “Drop and Get Low”, “Ex-lover”, New Day”, and “I got the love”. The movie was released on Netflix on September 8th 2017 available to over a hundred million subscribers and trending on its first weekday view, it’s presently the most watched movie on Netflix so far.

Maxwell recently had a cameo appearance in the UK Film “The Intent 2, The Come Up” which was shown across all UK cinemas and is now also on Netflix.   

As the year progressed Maxwell D teamed up with Sharky Majors “Grime Originals”. Here he re-connected with his old grime pals such as the likes of Wiley, Lethal Bizzle, Fumin, Manga, Dj Target, Rude kid and many more.

Maxwell D continues to strive in his music career and went on to land another track “Crack the Ground” in a Lion’s Gate Movie for 2018 titled “Blind Spotting” with amazing actors such as the likes of Daveed Digs, Tisha Campbell, Rafael Casal and many more. The single has since been synced in 3 other major movies. 

Maxwell set up his own Mentoring Company called Music Through The Bars, which he now delivers music workshops across the county in Prisons, Colleges, University’s and Schools. 

 

2019 Maxwell became the ambassador for LVN (London Village Network). Maxwell recently sat on a panel with the likes of MP David Lammy discussing knife crime in UK. 

 

2020 Maxwell D released his new album Growing pains and a grime mixtape called Grime OG,

Maxwell has also appeared in the UK Daily mail paperspraising him for his Music through bars workshop, how it has been a bi g help the UK prison system.

 

Maxwell has now signed has now signed his classic debut UKG garage song chart topping SERIOUS to Universals Motown through the directors of the Intent movie Nicky Slim ting and Femi O which is now the sound track to their new Grime Movie Against all odds Serious 2020 Remix is produced by legendary Rude kid
